Duofold and Pierce are also joining forces to help outdoor enthusiasts prepare for America’s winter weather. Pierce, along with winter weather experts at Duofold, have compiled a list of “Winter Weather Preparation Tips” for the upcoming season.
Currently training for the race in a commercial freezer located in San Diego, Calif, Pierce will be outfitted with the latest base layer gear from Duofold. The gear is specially designed to perform under the most challenging winter weather conditions.

- Recognize the warning signs of winter dangers such as frostbite and hypothermia. These are two of the most common injuries when you are caught unprepared for the weather. Frostbite warning signs include redness or pain on the skin, especially exposed skin, and hypothermia signs include excess shivering, confusion or sleepiness.

- Remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids. In cold weather, many people do not stay as hydrated as they should. While coffee and hot chocolate may keep you warm, they both include caffeine which dehydrates. Make sure to drink hydrating fluids such as water.

- Be aware of the weather conditions and temperature before going outdoors. The air temperature does not have to be below freezing for someone to experience cold emergencies. Check your local weather forecast in the morning so you can dress properly.
